Geometric Control of Domain Structure Stability in Ferroelectric Nanotubes

Abstract Ferroelectric nanotubes offer intriguing opportunities for stabilizing exotic polarization domains and achieving new or enhanced functionalities by tailoring the complex interplay among geometry, surface effects, crystal symmetry, more. Here, phase‐field simulations to predict room‐temperature equilibrium domain structure in (001) pc PbZr 0.52 Ti 0.48 O 3 (PZT) are used (pseudocubic (pc)). The incorporate influence of surface‐tension‐induced strains, which have been ignored existing computational studies. It is found that PZT can host a unique class topological structures comprising non‐planar flux‐closures anti‐flux‐closures inaccessible with ferroelectrics planar geometry (e.g., thin‐films, nanodots). shown strain significantly thin‐walled thereby lead noticeable modulation flux closures. Domain stability map as function nanotube wall thickness height established. results provide basis geometrical engineering associated functional piezoelectric, electrocaloric) responses ferroelectric nanotubes.
